Reducing Risk Behaviors for American Indian and Alaskan Native Students

Are you tired of student attitudes and bullying? This session will provide information and tools regarding issues of student attendance, bullying and school climate. Participants will be led through an examination of the findings in the U.S. Department of Education White House Initiative on American Indian and Alaskan Native Education School Environment Listening Sessions Final Report, October 2015 in order to examine their school climate and identify root causes of risk behaviors including: bullying, harassment, attendance/truancy, student engagement, and adult attitudes as well as adult behaviors.

Purpose

To raise awareness of the influence school climate and culture has on student risk behaviors, attitudes, and bullying.

Objectives

  • To analyze the impact school climate has on the culture of a school.
  • To examine the root causes of student attitudes and bullying.
  • Consider a plan to address issues identified in the examination of root causes to student attitudes and bullying.
